Angelina Jolie, in a recent W Magazine interview, revealed her disdain for dishonesty, stating, "My pet peeve is somebody who is a liar." The admission comes amid the finalization of her eight-year divorce from Brad Pitt. The official end to the high-profile separation, marked by custody disputes and the resolution of shared assets, including the French estate Château Miraval, was finalized December 30, 2024.
The divorce proceedings were protracted, largely due to disagreements over Château Miraval, a significant property purchased by the couple in 2008. The estate, often a family retreat and the site of their wedding in 2014, became a major point of contention. The sale of Jolie's stake in the winery to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, without Pitt's consent, further fueled the conflict. Pitt's legal team argued this violated prior agreements, aiming to damage the winery's reputation. Jolie's team countered that the sale was necessary for financial independence.
The final agreement, however, includes undisclosed terms regarding the future of Miraval. Custody arrangements for their six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne – were also addressed in the agreement. The finalized decree awarded joint custody to both parents for children still under 18.
In a notable aspect of the settlement, several of the children have chosen to adopt Jolie's last name exclusively. Shiloh, for example, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie. This follows similar choices made by sisters Zahara and Vivienne, reflecting the evolving relationships between the siblings and the couple post-separation.
