A fire at a hotel on Bangkok's popular Khao San Road has resulted in the deaths of three foreign tourists and injuries to several others. The blaze occurred late Sunday, prompting an investigation into the cause.
Thai police confirmed that the deceased were all foreign nationals, with one found dead at the scene and two succumbing to their injuries after being transported to a hospital. The fire broke out on the fifth floor of the six-story Ember Hotel, a building situated in the heart of Bangkok's bustling backpacker district.
The flames were eventually brought under control by emergency services. Initial reports indicate that seventy-five people were present at the hotel when the fire erupted, resulting in seven injuries in total. Among those injured were five foreign nationals and two Thai citizens.
In response to the tragedy, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stressed the need for increased safety measures, particularly with New Year's Eve celebrations approaching, where various events with fireworks are planned across the city. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
