Brooke Shields, actress and model, reveals in her upcoming memoir, "Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman," a concerning experience with a plastic surgeon. The memoir, slated for release on January 14th, details a procedure where Shields alleges a surgeon performed an unrequested vaginal rejuvenation in addition to a labia reduction.
Shields, speaking to Us Weekly, recounted her discomfort and subsequent labia reduction procedure, noting that insurance does not cover cosmetic surgeries. Crucially, she claims the procedure was not limited to a labia reduction, but included an additional vaginal rejuvenation, which she claims was not discussed or consented to.
The additional procedure, she said, was "a bizarre, like, rape of some kind." She was reportedly "dumbfounded" when her surgeon disclosed the unrequested modification. Shields felt the experience to be deeply invasive and embarrassing. Further, she expressed reluctance to share this aspect of her personal experience with her husband, citing feelings of shame and anger.
Despite the sensitive nature of the incident, Shields emphasized the importance of open discussion about women's health issues. In her upcoming memoir, she intends to address such matters, stating that shame is no longer an acceptable response in these situations.
This isn't the first time Shields has publicly addressed difficult personal experiences. In a previous interview, she discussed the trauma of sexual assault, which she detailed in her documentary, Pretty Baby. Shields' openness about these issues highlights a growing trend of individuals sharing their experiences to raise awareness and promote healthier conversations about sensitive topics.
