A 71-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Fort Worth, Texas bingo hall early on New Year's Day during a confrontation with a suspected car thief. Kenyan Buchanan, 30, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death.

Police say the victim, Roger Smith, confronted Buchanan who was allegedly stealing from his truck. The confrontation escalated, resulting in Smith being shot and robbed of his wallet and phone. A witness reported seeing Smith fall after the shooting and the suspect fleeing in a white SUV.

Following a police search, a white Mazda matching the description was stopped on Friday. Inside, authorities found Buchanan and a passenger. Crucially, Buchanan had reportedly altered his appearance, cutting his hair, after learning of Smith's death through news reports.

This led to his swift arrest and booking into the Tarrant County Jail. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident.
