French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has strongly defended the European Union (EU) in response to President-elect Donald Trump's suggestion that the U.S. acquire Greenland. Barrot, speaking on French radio, asserted the EU's resolve to protect its borders and maintain its position as a global power.
While dismissing the prospect of a U.S. invasion, Barrot acknowledged a potential shift in global power dynamics. He stated, "If we're entering an era of survival of the fittest, then the answer is yes." This comment underscores a perceived threat to the EU's sovereignty stemming from Trump's controversial proposal.
Trump's recent assertion, published on Truth Social, that the U.S. needs control of Greenland for national security, sparked immediate global concern. The president-elect cited the need to secure global freedom and maintain national security.
Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede countered Trump's proposal, emphasizing Greenland's autonomy and refusal to be bought. "We are not for sale," Egede declared.
The Greenlandic government's response included a statement refusing to meet with Donald Trump Jr. during his unofficial visit to Nuuk. This underscores a clear stance against any attempts to undermine Greenland's independence.
