The Labour Party has issued an apology following the release of an AI-generated video on TikTok that contained explicit lyrics encouraging the use of drugs with young women. The video, posted to the party's official account, featured animals promoting NHS and police reforms, set to a Portuguese song with highly objectionable translations.
The video, titled "Labour's plan to change Britain as animals," has drawn swift condemnation. The AI-generated imagery depicted animals in various roles, including a lion as a suited politician, a bulldog as a police officer, a rabbit as an NHS nurse, and a cow in a construction worker's uniform.
The problematic content stemmed from the Portuguese song, "Montagem Coral," whose lyrics, when translated to English, advocate for the drugging of young women to facilitate sexual activity. The video's explicit nature prompted widespread criticism, including a rebuke from Conservative MP Alicia Kearns.
Labour swiftly deleted the video and issued a statement expressing regret. A spokesperson acknowledged the inappropriateness of the translated lyrics, describing the video as an adaptation of a viral social media trend.
"The post is an adaptation of a viral social media trend and contains a mix of two music tracks. We acknowledge the translation of the lyrics are completely inappropriate. We apologize, and the video has now been deleted," the spokesperson stated.
Kearns, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), criticized the video's content, questioning the party's suitability for leadership. "Do you think it's acceptable Yvette Cooper for your party to put out videos with lyrics encouraging men to get young girls on drugs so they can have sex with them, and celebrating punching girls in their vaginas?" she wrote. "So much for telling us we'll feel safer with you in charge."
The incident highlights the potential for AI tools to generate content with unforeseen and harmful consequences. It also underscores the need for greater scrutiny in social media content creation, particularly when political parties are involved.
