A woman succumbed to injuries sustained in the December 20th attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market, bringing the death toll to six, prosecutors announced Monday. The 52-year-old victim died in a hospital, according to German news agency dpa. Previously, four women (aged 45, 52, 67, and 75) and a 9-year-old boy had also perished.
More than 200 individuals were injured in the incident. The suspect, identified as a Saudi doctor who arrived in Germany in 2006 and held permanent residency, was apprehended immediately after the attack. He reportedly drove a rented car into the market.
Authorities note the suspect's background does not align with typical extremist attack profiles. He reportedly identifies as an ex-Muslim and publicly expressed criticism of Islam, alongside online support for far-right ideologies.
