Meta has acknowledged a software update issue that has rendered some Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S headsets inoperable. The company stated that while most users can now operate their devices normally, they are actively working to resolve the problem for all affected customers.
Initially, Meta had reported the issue as only affecting “some new Quest 3S devices,” not referencing Quest 2 or 3 models. However, the problem appears to be more widespread. This revised acknowledgment brings renewed hope for users, particularly those with out-of-warranty devices who previously faced difficulties obtaining replacements or repairs.
Furthermore, several users have reported receiving confirmation emails from Meta indicating that out-of-warranty service is being provided to address this issue. A Meta support forum community manager also confirmed that the customer support team has received new guidance on how to assist affected users. This suggests a shift in Meta's approach toward addressing the problem.
The issues appear to stem from recent software updates. On December 6th, Meta reported the problems impacting the Quest 3S. More recently, on December 9th, they began the rollout of the Meta Quest v71 update, introducing new features. The company is now focused on rectifying the problems caused by the software issues.
