The San Francisco 49ers faced penalties and fines after their Week 16 defeat against the Miami Dolphins. The team was penalized 11 times for 90 yards during the game, and three players have subsequently been fined by the NFL for infractions that did not draw flags during the match.
Following the game, NFL authorities levied fines against linebacker Fred Warner and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott for hip-drop tackles. According to the league, a hip-drop tackle occurs when a defender wraps up a ball carrier then swivels and drops their hips or lower body onto the runner's legs at or below the knees.
Warner's fine totaled $16,883 for his second-quarter tackle on running back De'Von Achane, marking his second fine this season. Elliott was fined $11,774 for a similar tackle against Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert. Neither player was penalized during the game for these tackles.
In addition to the defensive fines, 49ers running back Patrick Taylor was also fined for unnecessary roughness, specifically a low block on Dolphins linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah. This penalty occurred during a play that resulted in a touchdown for the 49ers.
While several other 49ers players, including Talanoa Hufanga and Deommodore Lenoir, were penalized during the game for unnecessary roughness, they did not receive additional fines. Additionally, Dolphins safety Jevon Holland was fined for a low hit on 49ers center Jake Brendel, which occurred during a separate play.
