Nvidia has officially completed its acquisition of Run:ai, an Israeli startup specializing in AI hardware infrastructure management. This merger marks a significant move by Nvidia, with Run:ai's software slated to become open-source, extending its reach beyond Nvidia's proprietary hardware ecosystem.
Following the completion of the deal, Run:ai has stated that its software, designed to optimize AI hardware, will be made available to the broader tech community. This move is expected to allow competitors such as AMD and Intel to integrate the technology with their own products.
Run:ai expressed enthusiasm about the merger in a statement to Bloomberg, noting that they look forward to expanding their team and product reach. Their decision to open-source the software is a strategic step to broaden its availability across the entire AI landscape.
Nvidia had initially announced its intentions to acquire Run:ai in April, with a reported valuation of $700 million. However, the transaction faced scrutiny from regulatory bodies, including the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice, over potential competitive issues.
After a period of regulatory review, the European Commission eventually granted its approval for the acquisition in December, clearing the way for the deal to close. This acquisition is expected to bolster Nvidia's position in the AI hardware and software market while promoting wider accessibility to advanced AI tools through open sourcing.
