Prince William expressed profound sadness over the death of his former nanny's stepson, Edward Pettifer, a victim of the New Orleans truck attack on New Year's Day. The attack claimed 14 lives.

The 31-year-old Pettifer, a resident of west London, was identified as the final victim. The Metropolitan Police are assisting Pettifer's family with repatriation efforts.

In a statement, the Prince of Wales and Princess Catherine conveyed their shock and grief, extending thoughts and prayers to the Pettifer family and those affected by the tragedy. Pettifer was the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who served as nanny to William and Prince Harry between 1993 and 1999.

King Charles III, according to reports, also expressed his condolences to the family. Pettifer's family described him as a "wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend," and noted their profound loss. They also extended sympathy to the other families affected by the attack.

The Foreign Office confirmed its support for the family and ongoing communication with U.S. authorities. Authorities determined the cause of death for all 14 victims as blunt force trauma. The attacker, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a former soldier, was shot and killed by law enforcement at the scene. Jabbar, reportedly had posted violent content on social media hours prior to the attack.
