A significant collision between a Brightline train and a fire engine in Delray Beach, Florida, resulted in multiple injuries Saturday morning. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of East Atlantic Avenue and Southeast 1st Avenue, led to the hospitalization of at least three firefighters and a dozen other individuals.

The collision took place shortly before 10:50 a.m., as confirmed by Delray Beach Fire Rescue Chief Ronald Martin. Photos from the scene depict substantial damage to both the train and the fire engine, underscoring the severity of the impact. Emergency responders from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue assisted, transporting a total of 12 people to local hospitals with minor injuries.

Among the injured were three firefighters, two of whom were initially reported in critical condition. These firefighters were immediately taken to Delray Beach Trauma Center, where they are now listed in stable condition. Authorities have confirmed that there have been no fatalities at this time.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation. While there was a concurrent call for service in the area, it remains unconfirmed whether the fire engine was responding to that particular incident at the time of the collision. The functionality of the crossing guardrails at the time of the incident is also under scrutiny.

Following the accident, Delray Beach Police closed the intersection of East Atlantic Avenue and Southeast 1st Avenue, advising drivers to use alternative routes. The Delray Beach Police Department, along with Brightline officials and the National Transportation Safety Board, have launched a joint investigation to determine the precise cause of the collision.
