BBC's "The Traitors" returns, captivating audiences with more than just its psychological twists. This season, viewers are equally enthralled by Claudia Winkleman's fashion choices, expertly curated by stylist Sinead McKeefry.
McKeefry, a Central Saint Martins graduate with a master's degree in Knitwear, draws inspiration from the Scottish Highlands for Claudia's wardrobe. Her personal style, a blend of countryside chic and slightly worn-down elegance, translates seamlessly into the show's setting.
"I love that aesthetic," McKeefry explains. "My family and I spent summers in Donegal, so I'm naturally drawn to that kind of backdrop. Tweed and knitwear are perfect for capturing that look."
McKeefry's meticulous approach involves detailed planning and even employing Polaroids. However, improvisation plays a significant role, especially in adapting to the show's fast-paced environment. "The first series was a lot of trial and error," she recounts. "Last-minute changes are standard in TV styling."
The stylist describes how they sometimes had to source items quickly, like a veil for a funeral scene, relying on Amazon for urgent needs. The stylist also appreciates Claudia's own fashion sense and enthusiasm. "Claudia has a very good natural style, and she's really into fashion."
While some looks have resonated with audiences, predicting future iconic moments remains elusive. "You almost don't want to repeat yourself, but so far, people seem to have loved the [previous] Kaptial jumper, but I think the standout moment is still to come."
The "Traitors" wardrobe, vastly different from Claudia's "Strictly" style, is characterized by a more relaxed, pared-back aesthetic. "We can be quite playful and a bit more dramatic," says McKeefry. This season features a Gothic influence, with dramatically styled pieces.
This season's looks extend beyond just the show. Some of Claudia's most coveted pieces, including iconic outerwear, have been auctioned off to benefit charities like Comic Relief and the King's Trust.
