Foreign Secretary David Lammy has dismissed U.S. President Trump's assertion that the U.S. might seize Greenland, calling it unrealistic. Lammy expressed amusement at the suggestion, noting the lack of conflict among NATO allies since the alliance's founding in 1949.

Trump's comments were characterized as typical of his provocative rhetoric, according to Lammy. He suggested the president may be addressing concerns about Russia and China's presence in the Arctic, and U.S. economic security.

Lammy highlighted that Greenland is a Danish territory. He further downplayed any significant concern from the UK's perspective, contrasting it to possibly more direct French and German reactions. When pressed by the BBC, Lammy definitively stated that a U.S. takeover of Greenland was unlikely.

Responding to Trump's call for NATO members to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, Lammy pointed out that the U.S. currently spends 3.38% of its GDP on defense.
