Former President Jimmy Carter's final rites will conclude today in Plains, Georgia. The schedule outlines a day of events, moving from Washington, D.C. to the former president's home.

Washington, D.C.

The procession begins at 9 a.m. with Carter's casket departing the U.S. Capitol for Washington National Cathedral. Arrival is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Family and remains will depart the cathedral at 11:15 a.m.

Transport to Plains

After departing the cathedral, the procession proceeds to Joint Base Andrews. At 11:45 a.m. the former president's remains will board a special military aircraft bound for Lawson Army Airfield in Fort Moore, Georgia. The transfer to a hearse is expected at 2 p.m. Following the ceremony, the motorcade will escort Carter and his family to Plains.

The motorcade will arrive at Maranatha Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. An invitation-only funeral service is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. At 4:45 p.m. the procession will move to the Carter residence for a final private gathering. A tribute to Carter's naval service and time as president will conclude the day with a flyover by a U.S. Navy missing-man formation and a private graveside ceremony and interment at 5:20 p.m.
