A spider monkey, wearing a pink tutu, was safely returned to its owner in Missouri just before a winter storm threatened the region. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene after the monkey escaped from a nearby home.
The monkey, spotted at the intersection of two highways, was apprehended Friday afternoon. Initial reports from the sheriff's office, posted on Facebook, jokingly described the situation as a "monkeying around" incident. A series of photos captured a deputy engaging in successful "negotiations and coaxing" to bring the primate safely back into custody.
The monkey's escape preceded a significant winter storm, which prompted severe weather warnings across the region. The National Weather Service warned of blizzard conditions in Kansas and Missouri, as well as potential travel difficulties and hazardous conditions in New Jersey. The NWS advised against unnecessary travel due to reduced visibility and gusty winds.
