A two-vehicle accident near Dazey, North Dakota, on Thursday afternoon resulted in injuries to two individuals, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The incident occurred at the intersection of N.D. Highway 1 and Barnes County Road 4.
The collision involved a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Shelby Olson, 31, of Cooperstown, and a 1997 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by Jack Fehr, 20, of Wimbledon. Olson’s vehicle, carrying passenger Charles Olson, 34, also of Cooperstown, was traveling northbound on Highway 1. Fehr’s semi-truck, towing a trailer, was heading eastbound on Barnes County Road 4.
According to the Highway Patrol, Fehr failed to yield at the stop sign on County Road 4 and proceeded into the intersection, colliding with the side of Olson's vehicle. The Patrol confirmed that the Olson vehicle had the right-of-way.
Both Shelby and Charles Olson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City by Barnes County Ambulance. While Shelby Olson was wearing a seat belt and an airbag deployed, Charles Olson was unrestrained, although an airbag was also deployed. Fehr was wearing his seatbelt during the crash.
Following the collision, the Highway Patrol cited Fehr for failure to yield at a stop intersection. The accident remains under investigation.
In addition to the injuries sustained in the crash, the Olsons' dog, Daphne, ran away after the accident into a nearby marshy area. The Barnes County Sheriff's Office is appealing to the public for assistance in locating the dog.
