Los Angeles – The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations, typically announced at a live event, will instead be released via press release due to devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The announcement, which was scheduled for Wednesday morning, was canceled due to the intense fire conditions.
The nominations for outstanding performances in film and television will now be distributed to media outlets, replacing the planned live event hosted by actors Joey King and Cooper Koch. Homes and structures in Pacific Palisades and Altadena are currently threatened by the rapidly spreading fires.
Kristen Bell will host the 31st annual SAG Awards ceremony, which will stream live on Netflix on February 23rd at 8 p.m. EST. The ceremony will take place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Idris Elba hosted last year's event.
The SAG Awards are often considered a key indicator of potential Oscar winners for acting and best picture categories. These nominations are highly anticipated in the film industry.
The wildfires have also impacted other entertainment events. Wednesday's premieres of the Robbie Williams biopic "Better Man," Jennifer Lopez's "Unstoppable," and Universal Pictures' "Wolf Man" movie have been postponed due to safety concerns.
