Argentine authorities have charged five individuals in connection with the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died in a Buenos Aires hotel last month. The charges range from negligent homicide to supplying illicit substances, according to prosecutors.
The investigation revealed that Payne was visibly incapacitated due to the consumption of various substances, struggling to maintain his balance in the hotel lobby. Consequently, three individuals, including a hotel manager and head of reception, face negligent homicide charges for failing to ensure Payne's safety and preventing him from accessing a balcony.
Following that, the hotel manager, identified by initials GAM, is accused of allowing Payne, despite his obvious vulnerable state, to return to his room with a balcony. Also, the reception manager, identified as ERG, failed to keep him in a safe area until he could receive medical attention. Their inaction, according to prosecutors, directly contributed to the fatal outcome.
Additionally, Payne's companion, identified as RLN, also faces charges related to negligent homicide for not providing necessary care and assistance. The prosecution claims that he did not fulfil his responsibility to protect Payne's well-being.
Moreover, two other hotel employees, identified as BNP and EDP, are accused of supplying cocaine to Payne in exchange for money. These allegations have added another layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the potential role of illicit substances in the tragedy. The charges and investigation are ongoing as officials seek to determine the full circumstances of Payne’s death.
