Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her boyfriend, Ken Urker, have announced the birth of their daughter, Aurora Raina, marking a new chapter for the couple. The child arrived at the start of the new year, according to social media posts.
Urker confirmed Aurora's arrival via an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. He shared a photo of himself and Blanchard in a hospital room with their newborn.
The couple's choice of name was also revealed. Blanchard explained that the name was not inspired by the Disney princess but by a mutual fascination with the Aurora Borealis, revealing it was a name they had both chosen years ago in a previous relationship.
Aurora was born in Louisiana on December 28th, one year after Blanchard’s release from prison. She had served an eight-year sentence for her involvement in the death of her mother, a case that had garnered considerable attention. Her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, is believed to have had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, leading to the abuse of Gypsy Rose.
The couple had previously been engaged before a public scrutiny of Blanchard's case led to a split. After a subsequent marriage and divorce, Blanchard and Urker rekindled their relationship. The pregnancy was announced last July, with the divorce being finalized a month prior to the baby's birth.
Blanchard has addressed criticism surrounding her past and ability to parent, stating she is focused on maintaining a healthy environment for herself, her baby, and her relationship with Urker. She expressed her desire to provide for her child the kind of nurturing she wished she had received as a child.
